The Good Samaritan

The Good Samaritan popped up amongst the poems as I was writing in my journal. I passed it on to friends with young children and they loved it.  The church was looking for a lesson to teach one Sunday when the teacher was away - so I read it to the children. That started me on this next little journey of author/illustrator.
After much prodding and poking from friends, and 40 years since I had picked up a paintbrush, I illustrated the book and got it into print.
I have had lovely feedback and now it's in Sunday schools, bookshops, primary schools, libraries and homes.

Fun illustrations and rhymes
A fun little video creating the good Samaritan character with his donkey
The Prodigal Son
The Prodigal Son followed a year later and it talks about the love of a father and how not to feel jealousy and judgement when things look bad. The love and forgiveness felt towards his  wayward son is the same love our God in heaven shows to us, his kids!.
This was self- illustrated too - I used watercolour pencils which I really like working with.

A wonderful  rhyming version of the parable of Jesus;  hand-drawn, showing the importance of the Fathers love and forgiveness.
My illustrating style changes as I gravitate from  brush and palette to watercolour pencils. I am so blessed to be able to put this out on a Kickstarter and have it funded by pre-orders from some wonderful people.
It's been fun choosing rewards for all the pledges and working towards another beautiful book to be read to, and by children.

What the readers think!
I love the way the traveller is seen as a dad and husband and how we see him going back to his family. It really brings home the fact that by not helping others there could be very sad consequences.

These books are Beautifully Illustrated and easy for children to understand the messages.

I like this book because it builds up faith in sons and daughters
Paula A
I like that Janet had stayed close to the parable as told in the bible with her beautiful rhyming verses.

My little girl loved the story and read it to her little brother.
She was happy that the 'bashed man' got home to his wife and children

Delightful and with beautiful rhymes and illustrations
I loved:
* the illustrations.and rhymes
* the promise of more with the word 'series'.
* the use of the vernacular - bashed, smacked, etc.
* the introduction of the man's wife and children.
* the inclusion of the scripture at the end (Might be the first time someone reads the Bible!)
Well done Jan!

We loved the rhyming style of this wonderful little story book. Children identify with fun prose and my 2 loved the story so much we had to read it again and again....I am excited to see the colouring and puzzles companion. We will definitely be adding that to our home library and what a bargain at very affordable price.
